The family and I drove about 2 hours from my daughters' home in Williamsburg to Woodford County to a town called Versailles, Kentucky. As we drove down the winding road and turned on to McCracken Pike Road, we finally arrived at the Woodford Reserve Distillery. The tour was very informative and lasted about an hour so that even a non-drinker of the spirit would have a change of heart. They call that area the Bourbon Trail.
The story goes that Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey is the only American spirit native to this country. Some of the requirements that are a standard is that the barrels must be 100% new american white oak, 51% corn. The other grains that are used are malted barley and rye to add the spice notes.
This was our 3rd tour and the best one by far. If you get a chance check it out for yourself and buy a bottle to enjoy at home with family and freinds.
Dude! I like your Blog. Nice to "hear" from you even if it's reading your thoughts, so to speak.
